The deadline for Summer/Fall 2011 scholarship applications is April 27, 2011.
We offer six $1,000 scholarships— two awarded by Nikon and four by the Workshops*—for workshops running between June and December 2011. There are also two unique, $825 scholarships offered for the Summer/Fall 2011 season—the Rick Allred Scholarship for Young Photographers.
This is what past winner Victoria Ballesteros had to say to Director Reid Callanan:
"Hello Reid,
I never had a chance to thank you for the scholarship that enabled me to take Carlan Tapp's workshop, so please accept this now. Frankly, it was the most gratifying and deep learning experience I have ever had. Carlan gave so much to each of us, and we all just soaked it up. I also found out that I love the photographing workshop aspect—I've finally moved out of the digital lab. I am in awe of the work you do, week after week after week, and I am thankful that you do it.
Best,
Victoria Ballesteros"

Donnell Proust Says: Go Where the Pros Go
Week after week, participants come to do workshops with us in Santa Fe. And week after week, we feel their enthusiasm, and share in their breakdowns and breakthroughs. They leave here energized about their passion and their art; some will say their week with Santa Fe Workshops changed their life and their photography forever. Many come back a second, third, tenth time.
And sometimes, sometimes, one of our participants takes the time to pen an expression of their experience. Donnell Probst has done just that. Thank you, Donnell, for choosing us and for your kind words. We are as passionate about our workshops and our participants experience with us as we are about photography. And we are ever grateful when others share in that passion.
An excerpt from Donnell's post:
"If you have been in the photography industry for any length of time, you know there are an excessive number of photography-related workshops available to the general public. This fact begs the question – which ones are worth your hard earned dollar and likely very limited 'free time'?
My quick answer: go where the pros go. Because quite frankly, the big name professionals are less likely to associate themselves with frivolous, lackluster workshops, and (the obvious reason) they’ve got the knowledge and experience you want.
… the Workshops offer everything from lighting, landscape, and fine art classes to digital workflow and business workshops ... If fabulous class offerings and fully equipped studio spaces and facilities are not enough for you, consider that internationally renowned photographers such as Joe McNally, Jay Maisel, Bobbi Lane, Peter Yang, Karen Kuehn, David Michael Kennedy, and Andrew Eccles call the Santa Fe Workshops home for a week or two each year, welcoming hundreds of photography students ranging in experience level from beginner to hobbyist, and even the seasoned pro."

Onward & Upward for Two of Our Own
PDN just announced their PDN's 30 2011—their choice of 30 new and emerging photographers to watch. At the Workshops we were thrilled—but not surprised—to see Rebecca Drobis and Ryan Heffernan on the list. Rebecca and Ryan were participants at the Workshops, and then were on staff as Course Coordinators.
Congratulations to them both!
