A Sense of Place with Tillman Crane

Slow down, stop and look. Often when photographing in a new location we hurry to make as many images as possible, as quickly as possible.

I believe it wise, before ever raising the camera to your eye, to slow down. Take a deep breath and really see what is in front of you. Where is the light coming from? What is the obvious image? What is attracting you to this place? What do you find intriguing about this location.

If you take a few minutes to sit and look at your surroundings you will begin to see beyond the obvious and find the subtleties that will make your photographs different from the rest.

Listen to the quiet voice inside your head and find the touchstones that will make your images of any location specifically yours.
