"The Moment It Clicks"

Santa Fe Photographic Workshops Store Manager and photographer Santiago Romero reports that Joe McNally's book, "The Moment It Clicks," is "going off the chain," which he says is slang for "very popular." This book by the perennially favorite workshop leader offers an opportunity to learn "photography secrets from one of the world's top shooters."

Joe led Location Photography and Lighting in the studio last week and will lead the same class this summer from July 20th through 29th.

Jack and Dave's Blog

Jack Duganne and David Saffir brought the "Jack and Dave Show" to The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops for a week-long fine art printing workshop.  In addition to printing unlimited prints on our HP 9180s, participants had the opportunity to make large prints on our HPZ3100 24 and 44 inch printers.  Friday night the prints were hung for a one-night show as part of our weekly Friday Night Celebration.  Visit Jack and Dave's blog to experience part of their week in Santa Fe!

A Chat With Our Summer Catalog Cover Artist

by Jennifer Chapman

Many current and prospective students of The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops look forward to getting our catalog twice a year and what better way to express our love for photography than to produce a beautiful catalog that celebrates the photography that inspires us all.

As Scott Kelby says of our catalog on his blog, "Since it's just a listing of their upcoming classes, I guess I wasn't expecting to see so much incredible photography, but... it's filled with incredible photography!  It's a beautifully designed catalog that makes such great use of photography that I had to sit there with it for a few minutes, and just let the images soak in..."

Although at The Workshops we are deep into our Winter season many people have already turned their eyes to the Summer schedule.  I spoke with Paul Adams, whose striking images of a horse graces the cover of the 2008 Summer/Fall catalog.  He explained he had a nine-month old in his arms and asked if he could call me back.

When he did, I learned he has a Masters in Photography and teaches in the Photography Department at BYU in Utah.  He said, "I've always enjoyed receiving the catalog and had the cover in mind when I shot the picture in Santa Fe one afternoon."  It's amazing what we can do when we set our minds to it.

When I asked him if he celebrated, he replied, "No, I just cashed the check and went back to work."

Paul loves teaching photography.  "We pursue photography because we love it, and it's an incredible feeling to be able to light that fire in other people.  It's wonderul to have a job that I would do even if I wasn't getting paid."

About being a father he says, "All the clichés are true and if I'd know how wonderful it was going to be I would have done it years ago."

The Educated Photographer

Workshop leaders, photography dealers, and historians David Scheinbaum and Janet Russek lectured about pictorialist photography in February at Verve Fine Arts in downtown Santa Fe.  The standing room only crowd was treated to an opportunity seldom had - a lecture, slide show and then vintage print viewing.  Beautifully crafted prints, whether platinum, gelatin silver, or pigment ink, are best experienced in person!  David and Janet will return to Verve this month lecturing about straight photography.

David and Janet will be sharing their experience and knowledge with participants at Santa Fe Photographic Workshops this August with their "The Educated Photographer" workshop.  This popular workshop is back by popular demand after last year's initial offering.
