Introduction to Video Production with Richard Newman
February 24 - March 1, 2008

In this workshop with Richard Newman, participants become familiar with the proper techniques for filming and editing videos, discover interesting ways to transform photos into spectacular videos, learn how to create podcasts for distribution over the Internet, and find out how to make creative video productions.

Richard discusses and demonstrates video and camera basics, composition and framing, camera moves, lighting, editing techniques, and the art of storytelling. Through class sessions and a variety of filming and editing exercises in and around Santa Fe, participants learn how to personalize a story through the use of videotape, still images, narration, interviews, natural sound, sound effects, music, and graphics. Whether your goal is to film and edit a family vacation, wedding, birthday, or creative videos for your Web site or YouTube, this workshop guides you through all the necessary steps to produce an entertaining, high-quality video.

This workshop is designed for anyone wishing to learn how to film and edit video. No previous experience is necessary

Video Production: The Next Step with Gerry Oher
March 2 - March 8, 2008

Technology meets technique in this workshop designed for those ready to go beyond the basics of their video camera and editing software and learn how to produce a video with proper filming, lighting, and editing techniques. Keeping in mind the primary aim of communicating an idea or telling a story, we focus on the “five Cs” of cinematography: camera angles, continuity, cutting, close-ups, and composition. We explore camera moves, sequences, angles, cutaways, screen direction, and lighting techniques.

Whether they are working on home movies, documentaries, or news stories, participants learn how to change the look and feel of their productions, both past and future. Other topics covered during the week include scripting and interview techniques, scripting and recording voice-overs, and recording interviews. We also learn and practice editing styles and techniques, including how to save and export video files, and how to make DVDs. Gerry assigns a variety of filming and editing exercises in the Santa Fe area. His goal is to empower students with the knowledge and inspiration to produce exciting videos.

This workshop requires a basic foundation in video production. Completion of ”Introduction to Video Production“ the previous week or a sample of video production is required for admission.
