Location Lighting: Five Steps to Great Portraits with Scott Pasfield

Asking the right questions before a photographic session is the key to creating great portraits. Designed for photographers who want to take their portraiture to the next level, this workshop introduces a simple yet structured five-step approach for achieving reliable, professional-looking results with minimal lighting equipment.

Demonstrations throughout the week take place in Santa Fe's wonderful natural and architectural locations, followed by class reviews the next morning. With access to the Workshops lighting and grip equipment, as well as the use of the studio, we explore a variety of lighting techniques that can be combined with natural light for interesting results. Other topics covered include the challenges photographers face in reaching their potential, techniques for comfortably engaging subjects, approaching strangers with confidence, taking a great self-portrait, and working through creative blocks. Participants leave with an energized attitude and a new sense of confidence in their lighting abilities.

Santa Fe Workshops Winter/Spring 2007 Season

“The Workshops continue to be the place to learn the craft of photography, to explore one’s passion for the art, and to network with a creative community of peers,” said Darcy Schwerin, Marketing Director for the Santa Fe Workshops

Schwerin said the on-site workshops in Santa Fe, are led by well-known and distinguished instructors including Jay Maisel, Norman Jean Roy, Antonin Kratochvil, Platon, Greg Gorman, Joyce Tenneson, Joel Sartore, Matt Kloskowski, Eliot Cohen, George DeWolfe, and many others.

“Using top-of-the-line equipment by Bogen, Calumet, Adobe, Apple, Kodak, and multiple other Educational Partners, participants stretch their skills and master new techniques as they immerse themselves in a wide range of topics including “Portraits: Beneath the Surface;” “Expressive Digital Landscape in Black and White;” and “Publishing the Photographic Book,” to name a few of the inspirational workshops this winter season,” Schwerin said.

In addition to on-site and on-the-road workshops, Santa Fe Workshops offers the popular “A Digital SLR Workflow Intensive: Two-and-a-Half Days of Information and Inspiration” for the third time. This digital workflow course provides a wealth of information, inspiration, and the taste of a weeklong workshop experience in a two-and-a-half day program.
